Water Damage Restoration in St. Petersburg

A peninsula city with more water than land inside its limits. Helene pushed in a record surge, and Milton dropped more than 18 inches of rain two weeks later. Call free any hour and reach an independent, locally owned restoration company.

Tampa Bay on one side, the Gulf on the other

St. Petersburg had 258,308 residents in the 2020 census. It sits on the Pinellas peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The city's limits take in about 135 square miles, and more than half of that, about 73.6 square miles, is water. Old Northeast and Snell Isle hold historic and waterfront homes north of downtown, and Kenwood sits in the middle of the city.

Neither of 2024's big hurricanes made landfall here, yet both left their mark within two weeks of each other. That is the lesson for a peninsula: a storm does not need to hit you to flood you.

Late September 2024: surge

Helene passed far offshore on its way to the Big Bend and still set a St. Petersburg record of 6.31 feet above the normal high tide line. Pinellas County's preliminary count on September 30, 2024 listed 267 properties destroyed and 16,516 with major damage.

October 9, 2024: rain

Milton's storm surge in Tampa Bay was only 1 to 2 feet, but the rain was extreme: 18.88 inches at Albert Whitted Airport and 20.40 inches at a site near the city. Homes that stayed dry in the surge could still take water.

What to tell the assistant

  • Your neighborhood or nearest cross street
  • Where the water came from: a pipe, the roof, rain under a door, or the bay
  • Whether water is still coming in
  • Whether anything smells like sewage or mold

Floodwater and clean water from a pipe are handled differently, so the source matters. If water is near outlets or appliances, stay out of it. Call 911 if anyone is in danger.

Then look at flood damage cleanup or emergency water removal. If walls stayed wet, read about mold after water damage.

Say you are in St. Petersburg and what happened.
