Doral: new construction on low ground
Doral incorporated on June 24, 2003, and grew from 45,704 residents in 2010 to 75,874 in 2020. It sits about 5 miles west of Miami International Airport and 13 miles west of downtown Miami, bordered on the west by the Ronald Reagan Turnpike and the Everglades. Homes came later than in much of Miami-Dade: residential growth began in the early 1980s with Doral Estates and Doral Park. The city averages about 69 inches of rain a year, most of it from May through October.
Doral is also a business city, with many importers, exporters and financial firms near the airport, so water damage calls come from warehouses and offices as well as homes. Dominion Water Damage is a free phone line, not a restoration company. Call (844) 906-3984 and you are transferred to an independent, locally owned company that serves Doral.

What the City of Doral says about rain and flooding
The east side floods first
In the July 8, 2019 rain, the worst flooding was in low-lying areas north and east of the Doral Government Center, matching the flood maps in the city's Stormwater Master Plan.
Clean your private drains
The city services its own drains every two years and asks owners to have private drains cleaned by a professional company at least once a year.
Canal levels are coordinated
Public Works coordinates canal levels with Miami-Dade County and the South Florida Water Management District, and installed French drains along several corridors in 2016 and 2017.
Water damage in Doral homes
Doral counted 28,097 housing units in 2020, built since residential growth began in the 1980s. Newer homes still leak, and the usual indoor sources are the same as anywhere: a burst supply line, a water heater, an AC drain line, a washer hose. In a townhouse or condo, one unit's leak can reach a neighbor's wall or ceiling, and Florida's condo statute generally splits repairs between the owner, for interior finishes and appliances, and the association, for the structure.
Outside water matters too. During heavy rain, low streets and parking areas can hold water long enough to reach doorways, especially on the east side. Tell the company where the water came from, and it will plan the cleanup accordingly.

Most Doral residents are Hispanic, and the line's automated assistant answers in Spanish as well as English. Use the EN / ES button at the top of this page to read it in Spanish.
